The Power of Grace-Filled Ministry in the LGBTQ Christian Community

As ministers, especially within the LGBTQ Christian community, we are uniquely called to share the truth of the gospel in a way that uplifts, encourages, and reflects the boundless grace, mercy, and love of God. However, I’ve noticed a growing trend on social media where the focus seems to shift away from these truths. Instead, there’s an obsession with pointing out what’s wrong—how Christian beliefs are misused, distorted, or weaponized.

Yes, we are called to confront injustice and correct misunderstandings, but when the tone and approach of our ministry become solely about critique, we risk losing sight of the gospel's heart. The message of Jesus wasn’t one of condemnation but of restoration. He came to bring good news to the poor, freedom to the oppressed, and hope to the weary (Luke 4:18).

When we allow our ministries to fixate on what’s wrong with others, we miss the opportunity to share what’s right with God. Instead of encouraging others to draw nearer to Christ, we unintentionally create barriers that push people away or leave them feeling defeated. The gospel isn't meant to be a mirror reflecting only what’s broken—it’s meant to be a window, revealing the light of God’s redeeming love.

Let us remember the words of Ephesians 4:29:
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

As ministers, our calling is to lift up God’s grace, to speak life into people’s circumstances, and to extend the love of Christ to those who are hurting. This doesn’t mean we avoid hard conversations or ignore injustice. It means we approach every topic with the intention of pointing others to God’s heart—a heart full of love, compassion, and mercy.

Let’s be mindful of the tone and approach we take, both in person and online. Instead of fixating on what’s wrong, let’s share the beauty of what’s right about the gospel: that we are loved, redeemed, and called to be light in the world. In doing so, we can inspire hope, nurture faith, and remind others that in Christ, there is always a path to healing and wholeness.

May our words and actions always reflect the truth that God’s love is for all, and may our ministries be places of refuge and encouragement where grace abounds. Together, let’s share the good news in a way that builds up, restores, and transforms.
